Laboratory hinge "is not a single product name with strict and unified technical standards, but a functional category name. It refers to hinge products specifically designed for laboratory environments, experimental equipment, or related cabinets and doors.
It can be understood as follows: any hinge that has special performance requirements (such as corrosion resistance, positionability, easy cleaning, etc.) due to its application scenario being a "laboratory" can be classified as a "laboratory hinge".
Why do laboratories need 'specialized hinges'?
The laboratory environment is very different from ordinary residential or office environments, and the following core requirements are proposed for hinges:
1. Corrosion resistance
Laboratories often come into contact with various chemical reagents, acid-base solutions, and disinfectants. Hinges made of ordinary steel are prone to rusting and corrosion in this environment, leading to poor opening and closing or even failure. Therefore, stainless steel (especially SUS304, SUS316) is the most common material for manufacturing laboratory hinges. In addition to stainless steel, hinges made of chemically stable materials such as engineering plastics or nylon are also used in specific corrosion-resistant scenarios.
2. Accurate positioning and arbitrary stopping
In diagnostic or analytical equipment, hinges are no longer just simple rotating connectors. For example, an instrument with a touch screen requires the door or screen to be able to hover stably at any angle, making it convenient for operators of different heights to view. This function is called "position control hinge", "torque hinge" or "friction hinge". A related patent document also describes in detail a complex door hinge design with tracks, guides, and elastic components, aimed at enabling laboratory instrument doors to move and position more flexibly and stably.
3. Cleanliness and ease of cleaning
The laboratory has requirements for cleanliness. The design of hinges should avoid the accumulation of dirt and grime, and have a smooth surface that is easy to wipe and disinfect. Some surface mounted (surface mounted) hinges are also commonly used in laboratory environments due to their simple structure and flat surface.
