1.Cut the Header Board: Cut your header board to the same length as your track.
2.Locate the Wall Studs: Use a stud finder to locate and mark the studs above your doorway. You'll want to attach the header board to at least three studs for maximum stability.
3.Determine Header Height: Place your barn door against the wall next to the opening. Position the header board above it, leaving about a ½-inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. Mark the wall at the top of the header board. Use your level to draw a straight, level line across the wall at this height.
4.Attach the Header Board: Align the top of your header board with the level line you drew. Secure it to the wall by driving long screws through the board and directly into the marked studs.
The track is the backbone of your sliding barn door system. It must be perfectly level to ensure the door slides smoothly and doesn't roll open or closed on its own.
1.Mark Pilot Holes: Place the steel track on top of the header board. Use your pencil to mark the locations for the pilot holes through the pre-drilled holes in the track.
2.Drill Pilot Holes: Remove the track and drill pilot holes at the marked spots. This makes it easier to install the lag bolts and prevents the wood from splitting.
3.Install the Track: Position the track back onto the header board, aligning it with the pilot holes. Install the spacers and then secure the track using the provided lag bolts. Do not fully tighten the bolts yet; leave them slightly loose.
The stoppers prevent your door from sliding off the track. Slide one stopper onto each end of the track. You'll tighten them in their final position after the door is hung, but it's easiest to get them on the track now.
The hangers, or rollers, are what allow the door to glide along the track.
1.Position the Hangers: Place the hangers on the top edge of your barn door. The placement is important for balance. Typically, they are installed 2 to 4 inches in from each side of the door. Ensure they are placed at an equal distance from the edges.
2.Mark and Drill: Once you're happy with the placement, mark the bolt holes. Drill holes through the door at these marks.
3.Secure the Hangers: Attach the hangers to the door using the bolts, washers, and nuts provided in your kit. Tighten them securely with a wrench.

The floor guide keeps the bottom of the door stable and prevents it from swinging. Most kits include a T-shaped guide that requires a groove to be cut into the bottom of the door.
1.Cut the Groove (if needed): If your door doesn't have a pre-cut groove, you'll need to create one using a router or a circular saw with a guide. The groove should be slightly wider than the floor guide.
2.Position and Secure the Guide: With the door hanging perfectly plumb (use your level), mark the floor where the guide should be placed. Screw the floor guide into the floor at this mark.
