EN 1125 – Full Classification Levels for Panic Exit Devices

EN 1125 uses a 14-digit classification, but only 10 main performance categories are graded.
Below is the full list.


1. Category of Use (Digit 1)

Grades: 1 level

Grade Meaning
3 High frequency of use (the only grade allowed for panic devices)

EN 1125 allows ONLY grade 3 — because panic devices must be high-durability.


2. Durability (Digit 2)

Grades: 2 levels

Grade Test Cycles
6 100,000 cycles
7 200,000 cycles

3. Door Mass (Digit 3)

Grades: 3 levels

Grade Door Weight
5 ≤100 kg
6 ≤200 kg
7 >200 kg

4. Fire Resistance (Digit 4)

Grades: 2 levels

Grade Meaning
A Not suitable for fire/smoke doors
B Suitable for fire/smoke doors

5. Safety (Digit 5)

Grades: ONLY ONE grade

Grade Meaning
B Panic safety — mandatory for EN 1125

EN1125 requires safety grade B.
(Digit 5 is always B for panic exit devices.)


6. Corrosion Resistance (Digit 6)

Grades: 4 levels

7. Security (Digit 7)

Grades: 2 levels

Grade Meaning
3 Standard security
4 High security

8. Projection of Device (Digit 8)

Grades: 2 levels

1 Large projection (>100 mm)
2 Low projection (≤100 mm)

9. Type of Device (Digit 9)

Grades: 2 levels

Grade Device Type
1 Push pad (EN 179 style)
2 Horizontal push bar (EN 1125 panic bar)

EN 1125 typically uses 2 (push bar).
